You should be able to choose a preferred option from several recommendation algorithms.

Recommendation systems determine which content you see and in what order it appears on your feed or 'for you' page. Very large online platforms must offer at least one option that is not based on profiling. That alternative system should therefore not recommend content based on your online behaviour.If a platform offers several recommendation systems, you should always be able to select and change your preference directly and easily.

1. Instagram
   On Instagram, you can choose to have a feed that only contains posts from the people you follow, in chronological order.
   • You do this by clicking on 'For you' in the top left corner of the app and then click 'Following'.
   • Note: you have to click this again every time you open the app.
2. TikTok
   On TikTok, you can choose a feed filled with 'popular' content.
   • You do this by pressing the screen in the app for a couple seconds, which brings up a menu.
   • In that menu, you can choose "manage feeds" and then turn off "personalised feeds".
   • If you choose to turn of personalised feeds, instead of the 'For you' page, you will now see the 'Popular' page. TikTok's 'Following' and 'Friends' feeds will then be displayed in chronological order.
3. Facebook
   On Facebook, you can choose a feed containing only posts from the people you follow, in chronological order.
   • From the menu (the nine dots at the top right), go to 'overviews' and then click 'friends'.
   • Note: you have to click this again every time you open the app.
4. Linkedin
   On Linkedin, you can set up feeds in chronological order.
   • You can choose 'Most recent' instead of 'Most relevant' at the top right.
   • Note: you have to do this again every time you open the site or app.
5. X On X, you can choose to have your page in chronological order.
   • You can choose 'For you' and 'Following' at the top of your page.
   • The 'Following' order means you will only see tweets from people you follow, in chronological order.
6. YouTube On YouTube (shorts), 'Subscriptions' shows you the videos and shorts of the accounts you are subscribed to, in chronological order.

You must not be misled, manipulated or disturbed in your ability to make free and informed decisions by the use of design tricks.
